Basic Travel Requirements for Nigerians visiting China

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Chinese Visa.


  • A completed visa application form.
  • Confirmation of your appointment for your visa interview at the embassy.
  • Photocopy and original passport valid for more than six (6) months and must have at least two (2) pages for visa purposes.
  • One colored passport-sized photograph that meets the passport requirement for a visa application.
  • Bank statement of not less than three months to the period of application of visa. The visa is proof of continuous flow of income and that you will be able to cater for yourself during your time in the country.
  • Travel insurance which covers medical insurance.
  • Return flight ticket to Nigeria.
  • A receipt that shows you have paid the visa application fee.

The People's Republic of China is an East Asian country with its capital in Beijing. It is one of the giant, most popular nations of the world and not without just cause. China is very popular for its inventions and innovations mostly in the world of technology. The four great inventions of China are gunpowder, paper, printing, and compasses and these are just four amongst hundreds. China also invented silk. It is one of the four great civilizations of the world with records dating back 4,000 years.

Since China is so massive, its climate differs from region to region. In the northeast China has hot and dry summers and freezing cold winters. North and Central China witness frequent bouts of rain with hot summers and cold winters. Southeast China has plenty of rainfall, semitropical summers and cold winters. The country in general can experience earthquakes and flooding is a fairly frequent experience in the central, southern, and western regions.

China is a unified multi ethnic country being 91.51% Han and having about 55 minorities. The country's official language is standard Chinese (mandarin). China subscribes to atheism, Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, Islam (over 22 million), Catholicism (over 4 million), and Protestantism (over 10 million).

Rice is a major staple in China especially for people in southern China where the rice farms are. Other staple foods are soy sauce, noodles, tea, and tofu. China is also famous for inventing chopsticks and wok which they use to eat their foods. The four major cuisines in China are Chuan (representing the West), Lu (representing the North), Yue (representing the south), and Huaiyang (representing the East). Chinese food is very famous around the world for its excellence.

Some tourist locations in China are:
  • The Great Wall of China, Beijing: This is the world's longest wall! It is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and certainly deserves to be. A visit to China is not said to be complete without climbing the wall and walking along it.
  • Xian: This historical site was discovered in the 1970's by farmers digging for a well. It features 8,000 life sized terracotta warriors who were created to guard the tomb of China's first emperor, Qin Shi Huang. You can come face to face with these soldiers in this site.
  • Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Centre: An important fact about China is that pandas are exclusive to China. China owns every single panda in the world and these creatures are indigenous to China. The panda is of great symbolism in Chinese culture and represents peace, harmony and friendship. You can get up close with these beautiful animals in Chengdu and even hold baby giant pandas.
  • The Forbidden City: The forbidden city was the imperial palace of the Ming and Quing Dynasties for over 560 years and as such could not be entered into by normal folk. Now, it is a great historical specimen of ancient Chinese architecture with its over 8,000 rooms all painted in yellow and red. It is one of the five most important palaces in the world.

There are several traditional festivals in China that are quite known around the world. A few of these are the Lantern Festival (15th day of the first lunar month), Dragon boat Festival (5th day of the fifth lunar month), Qingming (4th or 5th day of April of the lunar calendar).
