About Norfolk-Island

The territory of Norfolk Island is located in the Pacific Ocean. It has its Monarch as Queen Elizabeth II. The Australian government maintains authority on the island through the Administrator. 
 
The economy of the Island is primarily dependent on Tourism which is growing by the day. Agriculture is also part of the economy as the government prohibits the importation of fresh fruits and vegetables. The Island also has one winery.
 
There are no railways, waterways, ports or harbors on the Island. There is only one airport in Norfolk Island which is the Norfolk Island airport. There are inexpensive car hire companies to help you get a car for easy movement. There are also taxies that operate only on request.
 
The best time to visit is from October through to March when the rain has reduced and there is frequent sunshine. In January and February which are the warmest months, the temperature is around 25 °C (77 °F) during the day, and around 20 °C (68 °F) at night. In the coolest months, July and August, the temperature is usually around 18 °C (64 °F) and around 13 °C (55 °F) at night.

English and Norfuk (a creole language) are the official languages on the Island. Christianity is the predominant religion with almost 50% of the population being protestant, 32% Anglicans, and 12% Catholics. About 23% of the population do not adhere to any religion, 6% are unspecified while others worship in other religious groups.
 
The country records about 16,000 visitors a year. There are really interesting and beautiful places on the Island like;
  • Anson Bay Beach: This is a very beautiful beach and a cool relaxation spot. Surfers will enjoy it here and others can equally watch the surfers.
  • Emily Bay: This is one of the most wonderful swimming spot. It is not really crowded and has really clear waters and also beautiful surrounding.
  • Mount Bates: This is the highest point in the Norfolk Island. It is a very good spot for hiking. It is 319m above sea level.
 
Norfolk Island has a variety of plant species and also a few land birds. There are about 100 hotels in Norfolk Island where you can lodge when you visit.
